Recorded these tunes a few months back and finished mixing them last week. They had some simple mastering-type stuff done, but not a "proper" mastering job yet-we're going to do that when we've finished mixing the entire album. Anyhow, please have a listen/look. And if anyone is interested in the instrumentation/recording process, I'll gladly share. Thanks!

Well, firstly I love the first line in the bio: "We started the band as a married couple with no prior band experience."
Love the music, but overall the vocals are too low. Your instrument arrangements are great, but you are a vocal band and people are naturally drawn to voices in this type of music. It sounds like you have nice harmonies, so make that more upfront. Use the instruments to be the energy pushing the vocals. As they are, the vocals sit in too evenly with the rest of the arrangement. Don't make them too loud, though - easy mistake. _________________ Let me produce you

Yesterday's Apparition is awesome.
How'd you achieve the bowed string sounds?
What about the ethereal slides?
This is probably the best recording I've heard of yours, MC. Excellent stuff _________________ http://www.reverbnation.com/terryburch |

Thanks for the comments, guys.
Terry, the string sounds are mellotron string sample. The slide sounds are a portamento strip on an old Yamaha YC-30 combo organ that I have. You put your finger on the strip and slide it to vary the notes. It's sort of theremin-sounding. We put a bunch of spring reverb on them and overdubbed three of them together. |

the stereo imaging is awesome. seems like everything is sitting right in front of the drums and panned. lots of depth of field. How many mics did you use on the drums? _________________ http://www.reverbnation.com/terryburch |

We used 9 mics on the drums: sm57 top and bottom snare, sennheiser md421 on rack and floor toms, sure beta 52 on kick, neumann km184's overhead left and right, neumann u-87 as a far front room mic, and a audio technica at3030 as a close front room mic. Probably overkill, but we had access to the mics so why not use them, right? |

My friend Sean and I mixed these tracks (he's on here as chuckfurock), and he did some sort of leslie speaker plug-in effect, some delay, and lots of reverb on my vocal to make it sound that way. Wish I could tell you what the specific leslie emulator plug-in is, but I have no idea. |

The Leslie effect is from the DB-33 plug-in that comes with PT 8. Its an virtual organ but you can run an external source through it's amp and leslie. Damn useful plug-in. Plus mooger-fooger delay plug and a real spring reverb, a Furman, on the mixer.
Mixing these songs has been the funnest recording project I have done in a long time. I love mixing on a mixer!!!!
My wife agreed with the above poster, she thought the vocals were too low, she can't ever understand what you guys are singing. |

| Hey Maury, what were the preamps and converters that were used? |

| The preamps were on a Millennia Media unit (not sure of the exact model-very clean, transparent preamps), and an RME Fireface 800 for converters. |
