the brick will be real bricks, but with the slab they sort of sit on a "shelf" that is part of the slab. there will be a small air gap between the brick and the walls.
Passed our inspection today so sheetrock is on tap for tomorrow. Also, my builder got out of the hospital today (had to have emergency gall bladder surgery) and came straight over here to check out "his job site". Wow, that's dedication! _________________ http://www.digitaldrummer.net

Construction is done! Woo-Hoo!!!
this weekend I will be laying down the flooring and then its time to install bass traps and other sound absorption. lots of work ahead of me but I have a whole week off (of my regular day job) so hope to knock it out and then move in!

first I will be moving my existing bass traps into here --a combination of homemade Rockwool and cotton batting traps and a few of the ReadyBags with 4" of oc703. Next I will likely be making a trip to my local SPI (Specialtly Products Inc.) to get some more OC703. I will treat the corners and then probably will have to hang some traps in the peaks of the ceiling too. Then if still too live, I'll look at putting up some 1" 703.
I also have two windows which I know are the weak point in my "sound proofing" - I am hoping to find some heavy stage curtains that I can put on rods so I can cover the windows when needed. they are my only source of natural light and I wanted to have a little bit. so the curtains are not permanent and will allow me to open up the windows once in awhile.
The floor will be laminate so probably a few rugs to help tame sections. that's my plan until I see how it all works out.

If you can, get some 703 with FRK facing on it, and use this for your corner bass traps, with the FRK facing into the room.
This will increase the bass absorption, and also help prevent the room from being too dead. _________________ The acoustic treatment experts |

that looks great! and you got an entire building up from scratch in less time than it's taken me to construct one freaking room in my place....

yeah, the contractor I hired did not mess around. He was a super for a home builder that pulled out of the area recently, so this was really a pretty simple job for him. he knew the crews that could do quality work and work is work so they were willing to give him a good price. I'm really happy with it so far.
last night I scraped the floor - the scraper tool is like a metal broom handle with a 6" razor blade on it. That took me about 3-4 hours and a few blisters. then used the broom and shop-vac to clean up.
this morning I used the broom again, let the dust settle a bit then used the shop vac one more time. then I rolled out a couple rolls of the flooring underlayment and started laying the floor down.
I've never done this before but I watched it being done once and I learn pretty good that way. I'm also pretty handy with tools. I bought a fine (200) tooth blade for my 10" table saw and it's working very well to cut the pieces of flooring.
Anyway, got a little over 1/2 way done today but I'm doing it all by myself and now I'm really tired (and sore). time to take some Motrin and then I'll probably start working again. I'll finish the floor tomorrow though cause I also have a pile of construction trash that has to be moved to a dumpster. They couldn't get the dumpster back in my back yard so it's in my driveway and I have to carry everything to it. Plus, it's been raining off and on for about 36 hours now so the path from my driveway to the studio (created by trucks and bobcats driving back there) is pretty muddy now. And the trash is all wet and soggy so much heavier than it was a couple days ago. but I want to get it out of there so I can use my driveway again.
I could have hired someone to do all this but I'm saving several hundred bucks this way for sure.

| i don't have a driveway but i can totally relate to that last paragraph. nearly every task seems like it ends up being harder than it oughta be. and you want to do one thing but you have to do 5 other things first.... |
